The Philippine National Police Academy has started accepting from around the country applications for cadets, under a four-year scholarship program, who would later become officials of the PNP.
PNPA representative, Sr. Insp. Nixon Laoyan, is now in Cebu visiting schools and other places to encourage the youths to study at the police academy and join the police force.
This year’s recruitment is different from the one last year, said Laoyan, because those applicants who pass the cadet admission test here do not have to travel anymore to Cavite just to process their admission.
He said applicants in the region can take here their cadet admission test, other tests (general, physical, neuro-psychiatry, medical, and agility), and interview. The CAT will be held on October 26.
An applicant shall be at least 18 years old but not older than 22 years old before the date of admission.
A male applicant should be at least 5’4” in height while a female applicant should be at least 5’2”. Both must have good moral character, without pending criminal, administrative or civil cases filed at the prosecutor’s office or any court of justice.
Applications forms are available for free from any police stations, camps, jail offices and other government agencies. These can be photocopied also, said Laoyan, adding that the PNP has even provided these forms to some schools to given to interested students.
Completed applications shall be submitted to Police Regional Office-7, Laoyan said.
Laoyan said that a cadet, during his or her entire four-year scholarship program, will receive salary and other benefits.
A PNPA graduate is conferred the rank of inspectors, with a degree in Bachelor of Science in Public Safety, and could join at his or her option the PNP, the Bureau of Fire Protection, or the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology.
The PNPA’s vision is to be the center for professionals and for character development of public safety officers.
It was founded on August 26, 1977 as a police and fire service training institution, through Presidential Decree No. 1184 or the Integrated National Police Professionalization Law of 1977.
On December 13, 1990, the PNPA was passed by to the newly created Philippine Public Safety College and, since then, is located at Camp General Mariano N. Castañeda in Silang, Cavite.
The academy accepted its first woman cadet on May 1, 1993. She finished her residential scholarship program on April 6, 1995. —Edwin Ian Melecio/RAE
