US shuns Pinoy nurses due to attitude problem
“Cheating is not the real issue. It’s just a way to save face for the Filipino people and the government since they have to clean out their acts because it’s the nurses themselves who are the real problem,” this was the statement of Dr. Henry C. Seno, the President of American Dream Review Institute Inc., a US based review center for nurses in a press conference held last Thursday at the Casino Español.
According to Seno, “quality-wise our nurses are still better compared to other nurses in Asia like those from Korea, China and Filipino nurses are still in demand in the US however, hospitals don’t want to wait for them anymore as they don’t show up for work.”
The dilemma that he was trying to point out is that there were actually 40 of percent Filipino nurses who were contracted last year by hospitals in US but did not show up in their respective assigned destination. And as an adverse effect on this, some hospitals in the States now no longer want to spend for the visas of our nurses and they no longer want to sponsor their citizenship since they have had wasted so much money.
“Two to three years ago you will find job fairs from hospitals in the US but now there are seldom because they got burned and they would rather go to inferior nurses from India, China and Korea,” said Seno elaborating that the new nurses now are the ones who got burdened to take the responsibilities of their fellow nurses bad actions.
He also revealed that there were some nurses who signed several contract to different agencies since most prefer to be assigned in big cities like Los Angeles, New York or Chicago and don’t want to go in the Middle America because they said there is no action; but in fact it is in those areas where they are demanded the most. Also another thing that has stained the reputation of our country is that American hospitals have been duped by some Filipino recruiters who are getting nurses without licenses.
With these pressing problems, the American Dream Review Center Institute expressed their goals to bring back the credibility of our Filipino nurses with their vision of producing the best and learned nurses in the world. In the June and December 2006 board AmDream had a passing rate of 83 percent with an 8th placer in the June board examinations.

“We in AmDream would like to improve the Filipino nursing profession and we want our nurses to be learned. We want our students to study and learn nursing as if it’s for the first time and we advocate good attitude so that they won’t prefer stupid nurses from other countries because our nurses are better.” — Rhia de Pablo, correspondent
