Capitol to give over P2M aid to Tipolo fire victims

-

Governor Gwendolyn Garcia yesterday announced that the provincial government would be giving out financial assistance worth over P2 million to thousands of fire victims in barangay Tipolo, Mandaue City.

Garcia said that each affected family would receive at least P5,000. Likewise, the governor said that families whose houses were razed by the fire last July 25 would get an additional P2,000. On the other hand, those families and renters whose houses were partially damaged would receive P1,000.

The provincial government has allotted at least P2,742,000 as financial aid for the fire victims.

At least 591 families or 2,957 individuals were rendered homeless after the fire caused by unattended cooking hit Jaime Compound in barangay Tipolo last July.

The estimated damage to properties was pegged at P2.85 million. Of the 591 families, 405 are homeowners and 186 are renters.

Garcia said that her office has already the list of all the beneficiaries of the financial assistance. The governor herself would personally visit the site to hand over the financial assistance to the fire victims tomorrow, Friday.

She added that her office already coordinated with the City Social Welfare and Development Office of Mandaue City regarding the distribution of cash assistance. Expected to accompany her are officials of the city government.

With the cash assistance, Garcia hopes that the affected families would start purchasing the materials needed for the reconstruction of their burned houses. — Gerome M. Dalipe/MEEV
