RP Everest climb now in stamps

The Philippine Postal Corporation has commemorated the Philippine conquest of Mt. Everest in stamps.

PhilPost and the First Philippine Mt. Everest Expedition Team launched the Conquest of Mt. Everest Stamps featuring the first Filipinos who have made it to the top of the world’s highest mountain.

Three Everest climbers Heracleo “Leo” Oracion, Erwin “Pastor” Emata and Romeo Garduce will be featured in stamps by PhilPost.

Oracion became the first Filipino to reach the summit on May 17, 2006.He was followed by Emata, and then Garduce.

The conquest of Mt. Everest stamps colorful designs were done by PhilPost in-house designers, Jesus Delos Santos, Victorino Cerevo and graphic artist Richard Baron and printed in a litho-offset machine.

The stamps feature the panoramic view of Mt. Everest and the spectacular trek of the Philippine Mt. Everest Expedition Team all the way to the summit.

Aside from the stamps, Philpost has also acquired 49 brand new mail vans worth an estimated P36 Million from the Quality Service Fund Project of the Universal Postal Union based in Switzerland to speed up its mail distribution services.

Forty three Mitsubishi L-300 Mail Vans will be turned over to PhilPost and will be distributed to other areas in every region where PhilPost offices are found.

To date PhilPost employs a workforce of some 13,800 full-time regular employees and a transport fleet of some 4,839 vehicles nationwide.— Jasmin R. Uy/BRP
