Kin of dead OFW filing case against employer

The family of a Cebuano worker who died in Japan is filing charges against his employer, whom it accused of not acting on the repatriation of his body.

Jee Nerosa, the brother of Jerry Nerosa who was reportedly drowned in Japan last March 6, said they would file charges against the Tsuneishi Holdings, Co. Ltd for not working on the repatriation of Jerry’s remains.

Jee said Jerry was reportedly drowned in the sea after he was caught sneaking into one of his trainers’ pad allegedly to steal something but was caught by his roommates.

He said Jerry reportedly was wearing a mask at that time and was about to stab his trainer when he was caught. Jerry then reportedly jumped from the 4th floor of the apartment owned by the company and had gone missing.

On March 31, Jerry’s body was seen floating in the sea miles away from the apartment where he stayed and the autopsy report showed he drowned.

Jee said they would seek assistance from the government to claim Jerry’s remains. Tsuneishi Holdings, according to Jee, had promised them tickets to Japan to claim the remains of his brother.

But Jee said that in exchange of the tickets, they are required to sign a waiver clearing the company of any responsibility should they be able to claim Jerry’s body.

“Dili man mi mopirma ana mao nga nalangay among ticket pag-adto sa Japan. We want them (the government) to hear our plight. Karon ingon man sila (Jerry’s employer) nga molarga mi sa Lunes ug naa na ang among ticket,” he said.

Jee, however, said Jerry’s employer has promised to shoulder their fare and will give them some assistance. —Jasmin R. Uy/LPM
