RESU-7 checks on rising dengue cases in M’lanilla

The Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit of the Department of Health yesterday expressed concern of the increasing number of dengue cases in the town of Minglanilla, with a recorded 129 cases for this month alone.

RESU-7 chief Reynan Cimafranca was in Minglanilla yesterday, particularly in barangay Tungkop. He reminded barangay officials there and their constituents to help in the awareness drive on how to combat dengue.

A total of 13 dengue cases in Tungkop were reported for July alone. From a total of 52 dengue cases recorded in June, the number rose to 129. Two children have already died in barangays Pakigne and Tunghaan.

Last June, Health officials in the region declared a dengue outbreak in Minglanilla after seven children died of complications.

“I appeal to the people in Minglanilla to help us. Manglimpyo gyod ta’s atong tugkaran. Hopefully dili na ni motaas pa ang number of dengue cases next month,” Cimafranca said.

Also, Cimafranca went to see Dr. Clinia Seguerra, chief of the Minglanilla District Hospital, to verify on the latest dengue situation.

Of the 43 admissions yesterday, eight were suspected to be suffering from dengue. Among those inflicted are the Coberos children of barangay Ward III.

“Usa sa leksyon ani siguro mao nga manglimpyo na gyud ta,” Soledad Maga, grandmother of the Coberos children, said. From her it was also learned that the Coberoses were already transferred to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center.

Meanwhile, it was confirmed that a nine-year-old girl in the mountain barangay of the neighboring town of Naga died last week due to dengue.

According to Naga Mayor Valdemar Chiong, the total number of fatalities has already reached six, mostly 10-year-old children. — Ramil V. Ayuman/MEEV
