70 Kalunasan families set for relocation from landslide-prone areas
About 70 families in two sitios of barangay Kalunasan will be displaced once the City Hall orders them to abandon the landslide-prone areas they are presently occupying.
William Miro and Alvin Santillana of the Cebu City Disaster Coordinating Council recommended for the transfer of the houses built in sitios Lokana and Lareja, which are considered landslide-prone areas.
But most residents in the two sitios have ignored the threat to their lives because they have no other place to relocate.
A landslide occurred in sitio Lokana last June 22 when the riprap of the house of Edwin Patatag collapsed. Although there was no casualty reported, the landslide also destroyed the houses of Rose Rosalejos and Riza Brillantes.
A landslide also occurred in the same area last January 8 and 9, but the two incidents still failed to sow fears among residents, prompting the city government to put up warning signs in the area.
Kalunasan barangay captain Francisco Pintor welcomed the move of the city government ordering the residents to leave the two areas. But he said it is very difficult to implement unless those affected families will be given relocation sites.
“Tan-aw nimo masayon kaha kini ipatuman kon walay relocation sites nga ihatag sa mga apektadong pamilya?” Pintor asked.—Rene U. Borromeo/LPM
