Benhur’s sister vows to aid progress in the 4th district

Cebu 4th district Rep. Benhur Salimbangon said his sister has vowed to support him in developing the district.

Salimbangon yesterday said that his sister, Mariquita Yeung, who is married to a Chinese businessman based in Hong Kong, vowed to bring in their Chinese friends to put up businesses in the north.

Yeung is also the president of MSY Charitable Foundation in Cebu.

“Just improve the infrastructures and I will bring my friends,” Salimbangon quoted his sister as saying.

Salimbangon said that if there are good infrastructure projects such as roads, a sufficient water supply, enough electricity, a seaport and an alternate airport, these could easily attract investors.

“I hope mahitabo ni sa akong termino or at least masugdan lang,” he said.

He said as for now the 4th district heavily relies on the sugar industry, particularly in Medellin town, but even this industry is no longer “as sweet as sugar” after the importation of cheap sugar.

He also plans to develop the Malapascua Island in Daanbantayan town as a major tourist destination in the north.

Salimbangon will file a bill in Congress reclassifying Malapascua Island from wilderness to a commercial area so lots can be sold to big investors who wish to build resorts and hotels.
