Suspected robber stabbed in Talisay

A suspected member of a robbery gang was stabbed by an unidentified man while walking yesterday dawn along the South Coastal Road in Maglasang Subdivision, Cansojong, Talisay City.

Talisay City police identified the victim as Joven Tabello, alias “Obet”, 20, a resident of Abalo Beach in the barangay. He sustained a serious stab wound to the left side of his body and was immediately brought to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center.

PO2 Harrison Quinañola of the Talisay Police Station said prior to the incident, Tabello, who is alleged to be a known toughie in the area, was walking home together with some friends after a benefit dance in sitio Kimba.

When they reached a dark area, the unknown assailant suddenly appeared from behind and stabbed the victim. The victim’s companions tried to chase the assailant, who already slipped into the darkness.

Quiñanola said they believe the assailant might have held a grudge against Tabello, and suspected that he was a member of another gang.

He added that the victim is the suspect of several robbery incidents but the police cannot arrest him since his alleged victims never file cases against him.  — Flor Z. Perolina/BRP
