Cebuano writer Gilda Montayre passes away

Gilda Montayre, a former radio personality and one-time leading light in contemporary Cebuano writing, has passed away last May 30 at the age of 87.

Montayre used to host an advice program on DYRC called “ Mga Tambag ni Inday Loling “ which was popular in the 1960s. She also wrote more than 30 short novels in Cebuano and was a regular contributor to Bisaya magazine.

She is survived by her nephews and nieces — Rebecca, Betty, Marilou, Oliver, Erwin, Sonny, Amor, and Anthony.

Her remains now lie at the Rolling Hills Memorial Homes. Interment will be on Sunday at the Queen City Gardens following a 1 p.m. Mass at the Mabolo parish church. (JST)
