Four men were nabbed in separate operations for alleged violation of the gun ban imposed by the Commission on Elections.
The Cebu Provincial Police Office identified those arrested as Jessie Aringo, Nick Devenosa, Nietz Pasaol and Eduard Durano.
Aringo, 23, of barangay Cogon, Catmon town, was arrested for possession of an unlicensed homemade .38 cal. revolver and five live rounds by the elements of 78th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army last Thursday at a checkpoint in barangay Tubigagmanok, Asturias town.
He was taken to the Catmon police station for filing of appropriate charges against him.
Likewise, the city police arrested Devenosa for similar violation. Authorities filed a criminal complaint against him but was later released after posting a bail of P80,000 upon the order of Regional Trial Court judge Victor Teves Branch 54 Lapu-Lapu City.
Pasaol and Durano, both of barangay Suba, Danao City, were arrested during a benefit dance in Suba by the barangay tanods also for guns.
Concerned citizens told the barangay officials that the two were seen with a gun inside the basketball court. Barangay tanods and officials immediately called up the police who came and arrested the two.
Police recovered a .22 cal. revolver and live bullets from the suspects.
In another incident, two teenagers were wounded while a man was killed in separate shooting incidents in the Danao City and Talisay City last Thursday.
Elvin Kevin Gomez, 15 and his elder brother, Vincent, 16, of barangay Looc, Danao City, were walking toward the house of their grandmother in barangay Cambanay, Danao when a man on a motorcycle shot them.
Elvin was shot in the left buttocks while Vincent was shot in the left side of his body.
Bystanders rushed them to the Danao City Hospital but were later transferred to a private hospital in Cebu City.
In another development, Romelito Ygonia, 34, of barangay Bantokan, Davao Del Norte, was shot dead by an unidentified man inside a karaoke bar in barangay Lawaan Uno, Talisay City, last Thursday.
Ygonia, who was temporarily residing in barangay Biasong, Talisay City, was drinking with friends inside the bar. Later, an argument arose between the victim and three men in an adjacent table and one of them pulled out a gun and shot Ygonia. The three quickly fled after the shooting.
Employees of the bar rushed the victim to the hospital but the attending physician declared him dead on arrival.
Meanwhile, a man was killed in a road accident in Cebu City yesterday.
Romulo Ancero, 17, of barangay Tapilon, Daanbantayan town, was killed when the motorcycle he was riding slammed into another motorcycle.
He suffered various injuries in different parts of the body and was rushed to a hospital where he died a few hours later. — Gerome M. Dalipe/BRP
