Comelec loses time on 2 disqualification cases

The Comelec provincial office yesterday admitted that it has no more time to hear the latest two disqualification cases against candidates.

Comelec provincial election supervisor Lionel Marco Castillano said that among the many cases filed against candidates, only two were left pending hearing but his office already lacks the time to handle this.

The two disqualification cases filed last week were the one filed by Madridejos mayoralty candidate Salvador dela Fuente against reelectionist Mayor Lety Mancio, and the other filed by Augusto Corro against his mayoralty opponent, Sun Shimura, in Daanbantayan.

Mancio and Shimura were accused by their respective opponents of violating the election laws, said Castillano.

Due to lack of time, however, Castillano said these two cases could no longer be heard until after the May 14 elections. As such, Castillano directed the contending parties to "submit position papers, memoranda and additional evidences" within five days from the receipt of his order. — Garry B. Lao/RAE
