Two fishermen were arrested the other day after Bantay Dagat authorities caught them in the act of dynamite fishing in Esperanza, Poro, Camotes Island.
Bantay Dagat respondent Arnulfo Carlos arrested Allan Tundag, 34 and Ramil Otero, 21, fishermen-residents of Cagcagan, Poro after the two were seen hurling a bottle of dynamite into a school of "tabangko" fish.
Confiscated from the suspects were the "tabangko" fish, a canoe and other fishing paraphernalia.
The government has prohibited dynamite fishing because of the latter’s tendency to kill fish indiscriminately, including fingerlings.
Suspects were turned over to the Poro Police Station for proper disposition, while the confiscated fish were turned over to the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources for examination.  Niña Sumacot, Kareen Saliente and Efmer Agustin/MEEV
