DepEd to hold ICT governance training
April 9, 2007 | 12:00am
The Department of Education is set to carry out training on Information Communications Technology governance, for its senior officials, and education on the rule of law for both students and teachers.
"In order to ensure the success of our ICT programs there is a need to engage department officials on effective management and monitoring of DepEd’s ICT programs," Education Secretary Jesli Lapus said in his order.
He said DepEd senior officials will attend a seminar-workshop on ICT governance that will tackle various concerns.
Among the topics to be discussed are governance decisions on ICT principles, Enterprise Architecture or the organizing logic for business processes, ICT infrastructure, specific ICT applications for DepEd; and ICT investment and prioritization.
"This seminar will also provide inputs for the effective planning and implementation of current and future ICT programs of the department," Lapus said.
The DepEd will also conduct the Public Education on the Rule of Law Advancement and Support, or the PERLAS project.
Lapus said, "We recognize the important role of education in transforming our students to become true assets instead of liabilities...this includes teaching them the values such as respect for the rule of law."
PERLAS project will educate students in public elementary and high schools about the judiciary and the rule of law.
Its first phase involved the creation of Teaching Exemplars for Classroom Use for Elementary and High School Students and a Student’s Handbook for School in the Rule of Law, which has been completed last year.
Now ready for its second phase, PERLAS will include the training of teachers and the finalization of teaching exemplars and manual, such as field-testing and validation, in preparation for its integration into the public school curriculum.
PERLAS has been supported by the United Nations Childrens Fund (UNICEF), The Asia Foundation, Lawyers’ League for Liberty (LIBERTAS), and the Supreme Court.  Jasmin R. Uy/RAE
