Search for outstanding RP students launched

The Commission on Higher Education has launched the 2007 Ten Outstanding Students of the Philippines search in its aim to recognize the youth of the nation for academic excellence, exemplary leadership, community involvement and good moral values.

TOSP has undergone a transition from being just an awards program into a program that also focuses on community building. It’s theme "learning, leading and serving for life" aims to promote excellence and service as a way of life through the TOSP awardees and finalists who will come from various regions in the Philippines.

The annual search is open to all students, not more than 30 years old; in any field of specialization, who is graduating this year and without any record of criminal conviction. The student must also be outstanding in the academics, co- and extra curricular activities.

The winners of the regional search will automatically qualify in the national finals that will be held in Manila this June.

A participating university will only be allowed to enter a maximum of three nominees while a participating college will only be allowed of two nominees provided that each of the nominees coming from the same university or college are in different fields of specialization.

Documents to be submitted are copies of nomination forms with two black and white 2x2 photos with supporting documents like transcript of records, certificate of membership in school or community organization, certificate of attendance from the university or school and list of awards and certificates of appreciation.

In 1994, TOSP embarked on a regional search so that students in each particular region can closely identify themselves with role models selected from their immediate environment and branched out into regional programs which included Central Visayas.
