Roco’s widow running to continue his mission

-
To continue the advocacy and mission of late senator and education secretary Raul Roco of providing quality education to Filipino youth is the main reason why his wife, Sonia Roco, is running for the Senate.

Roco told the press during her recent visit in Cebu that this is what she is telling the people wherever she goes campaigning under the Genuine Opposition.

Roco said that her platforms of government revolve around the acronym of her first name, Sonia.

The S stands for the "study now pay later program" which is already embodied in a law that allows students to get loan assistance from the government to finance their studies and pay it after their college graduation.

Roco said that the program was stopped when his husband, Raul, died and she wants it reinstated if given the chance to be a senator.

The O stands for "okupado sa trabaho" wherein after college, the graduates must get jobs.

The N stands for "networking" of all sectors in the community in helping the schools.

The I stands for "information highway" to be connected globally without border and boundaries. Roco said that her husband started the computerization in schools but the problem was the computers did not function because there was no electricity.

The A stands for the "advocacy" of going back to basic wherein values must be given primary importance. "We must live with our values," Roco said.

She has been named as "Inang Guro" for her multiple roles as daughter, youth leader, wife, mother, grandmother, educator, civic leader and caregiver, including her versatile interests in culture and the arts, in creation spirituality, in women’s causes as well as children’s growth and development. — Gregg M.
