1 killed, 2 wounded in Lapu-Lapu attack

-
A 14-year-old boy was killed while two of his friends were hurt when two unidentified youths shot them at the Cebu Wonderland Firing Range in barangay Agus, Lapu-Lapu City Wednesday night.

Lapu-Lapu City police homicide investigators identified the fatality as Leonel Daño, 14, of sitio Atabay of the same barangay, and those injured as Rubilyn Alferez, 15, of sitio Cadulang, barangay Marigondon, and Jemar Quiroy Tatang, 16, of barangay Agos.

Investigation conducted by SPO2 Rolito Jumao-as and PO3 Frederick Eslit said the victims and four other friends were relaxing at the roadside when the perpetrators onboard a motorcycle passed by and stopped few meters ahead.

The two assailants then approached the victims and immediately opened fire at them using an undetermined caliber of firearms.

Daño was hit in the back twice with the bullets exited from his chest and stomach, while Alferez was hit in the stomach with the bullet exited from her back.

Tatang, who managed to duck for cover, sustained injuries in his head after he was whipped with a handgun by one of the assailants, who also mauled one of the victims' companions.

Daño was rushed to Mactan Doctors' Hospital but was declared dead on arrival, while Alferez was brought to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center. Tatang was admitted to the Lapu-Lapu District Hospital.

Police believed that the attack stemmed from the rivalry between the Crips and Bloods gangs but could not say whether the victims belong to any of the groups.
