Five students from University of the Visayas-Main Campus put in a great performance to win the annual Cebu Association of Political Science Organizations debating competition which was concluded recently.
Five schools participated in the competition; Cebu Normal University, University of Cebu, University of the Philippines, University of San Jose Recoletos and University of the Visayas.
The UV debating team, composed of Rachelle Anne Paganao, Juril Patiño, Habeas Corpuz, and Micky Macorol, won against Cebu Normal University last March 11 as they argued on the topic: "Resolve that Sangguniang Kabataan be abolished."
The Visayanian debaters were for the abolition of the SK, which the opposing team tried to refute.
Prior to the championship, the Visayanian debaters clashed with the University of the Philippines for the elimination round with the topic: "Resolve, that National ID system be implemented."
Paganao won the special award as best debater while Macorol won best in rebuttal.
Political Science Society President Reynaldo Ruiz Jr. said the school has won thrice in CAPSO debates in 2004, 2006 and 2007.
The recently concluded debate is in line with the on-going CAPSO days with the theme "Unity amidst diversity." - Garry B. Lao/BRP
