Cebu province bested other local government units in Central Visayas in tax collection efficiency, according to the Bureau of Local Government Finance.
Concordia Adlawan, supervising local treasury examiner of the BLGF, said the province's collection efficiency was 104.7 percent over the standards set by the BLGF, which resulted to almost P10 million more than the collection target.
The Cebu provincial government has posted a total collection of P244.46 million in real property tax for 2006, surpassing the P234.90 million target for the year.
"Please extend our commendation to your Provincial Treasurer and Assessor and to all local officials for their invaluable contributions, unselfish support and commitment in attaining the revenue for that province under the Revenue Generation Program, that led to this success," Adlawan said in her letter to Governor Gwendolyn Garcia.
The top five contributions came from the towns of Naga, Consolacion, San Fernando, Balamban and Compostela. The efficiency rate in the collections of these five areas was over 100 percent. Samboan, Tuburan and Alegria are the towns that had the lowest collection. These municipalities did not hit the 50 percent efficiency rate.
According to the BLGF report, the Province of Bohol ranked second, with an efficiency rate of 78.48 percent or P86.7 million collection; Siquijor ranks third with 75.88 percent or P9.5 million collection and Negros Oriental with 66.79 percent or amounting to P59.5 million in collection. - Garry B.
