Labella frowns on notebooks with 'stars'

Covers of notebooks for grade school pupils should depict multiplication tables and other mathematics-oriented basic information, and not photographs of movie stars, teen actors and models.
City councilor Edgardo Labella made this suggestion, saying that in the past back covers of grade school notebooks were printed with multiplication tables and other math-oriented basic information that aid students understand the concept of math and its relationship with the other subjects.
Many parents, and even teachers, brought up the issue to Labella hoping that the city council could help revive the printing of multiplication tables and other math-oriented information on notebooks.
Labella also hopes that with the revival of notebooks bearing multiplication tables and pictures of national heroes, the move would be a good start in making math easier to learn and understand, as well as in inculcating civic consciousness.
In his resolution that would be taken up during the city council's regular session on Wednesday, Labella suggested that the Parents-Teachers Community Associations in Cebu City will take the initiative to ask notebook producers/printers/manufacturers to do away with the printing of faces of celebrities on their products. - Rene U.
