A sleeping man was killed when a sports utility vehicle went out of control and crashed into his house along Gil Tudtud Street in barangay Mabolo the other night.
The accident happened when 46-year-old Maria Erla Aranas Cabatingan of Poblacion, Liloan town reportedly lost control of her parked Isuzu Trooper SUV with plate number YCU-284 after she accidentally stepped on the gas accelarator.
Zion Gabini, 26, was sleeping inside his room when the vehicle suddenly slammed into his house and severly injuring him. Police said he was rushed by relatives to the Perpetual Succour Hospital but died few hours later.
SPO1 Dionesto Galo of the Cebu City Police Office traffic group said Cabatingan was waiting inside her parked vehicle, whose engine was still running, for her friend who would reportedly drive for her that time.
But as she was about to transfer to another seat, she reportedly accidentally stepped on the gas accelarator, causing the vehicle to quickly speed off.
The car then hit a passing taxicab driven by Tito Gayamot Dairo, 40, and two pedestrians standing along the road. Police identified those injured as Armando Moreno, 47, and Exaltacion Son, 60, all residents in the area.
After hitting Moreno and Son, the SUV then collided with a public utility jeepney driven by Agustin Ocampo, 53, also a resident in the area. The strong impact of the collision caused the tires of the PUJ to explode and the SUV to swerve to the left toward Gabini's house.
