CICC management team created

The Cebu International Convention Center Management Board has created an interim management team to oversee the operations of the world-class facility, which is expected to start earning by the end of February.

In yesterday's joint meeting of the CICCMB and its technical working group, the suggestion of one member that a management team should be formed was adopted.

Garcia, in an interview after their meeting, said that the interim management team will be composed of a manager, a deputy manager, clerks and technical personnel.

Provincial Board member Victor Maambong, who is one of the appointed members of the CICCMB, said they agreed to have an interim management team while they are yet to hire applicants for the position.

During the meeting, the TWG presented an inventory of the existing rooms and other spaces for rent as well as their functions and suggested rates based on a per-square-meter assessment.

Maambong said there were also suggestions as to how much will be charged for use of the rooms.

In relation to this, the Mandaue City Government and capitol will each put up P5 million in a joint account for the maintenance of the CICC, which is a joint venture of the two parties - Mandaue City which owns the 3.2-hectare property and the provincial government which built the P515-million building.

In relation to this, Maambong insisted during their meeting that there should be an assessment of the value of the lot and the building for recording purposes in their accounting book, although the governor made it clear the original sharing scheme for the income of 50/50 must stay, as stipulated in the memorandum of agreement that they signed last year.

Although the national government committed to pay for the use of the CICC facilities during the 12th ASEAN and East Asia summits last January 10 to 15 it has yet to pay, TWG member Rory Sepulveda was tasked to follow this up with the Office of the President.

The Department of Tourism has listed at least six international exhibits and fairs to be held at CICC but the CICCMB wants everything threshed out, including the financial aspects of the deal.

The Philippine Councilors' League has also vowed to pay any amount the CICCMB is going to charge them for the use of the CICC by the end of February. - Cristina C. Birondo
