CPPO pushes sanctions vs. erring summit cops

-
The Cebu Provincial Police Office had recommended the imposition of sanction on at least 100 field-training policemen from other regions that were detailed here as part of the augmentation force for the Asean Summit security.

Former CPPO director Vicente Loot said the recommendations have been sent to the respective mother units of the policemen and it would depend on these units to act on the matter based on the results of the investigation of their infractions.

Loot said that most of the police trainees up for sanction were detailed at the Lapu-Lapu City Police Station and only two were assigned at the CPPO. Most of them went on absence without leave, or AWOL, while the others were charged for being drunk on duty.

"While gagmay pa ilang sungay, putlon na daan kay bisan if they have already taken their oaths di pa sila hingpit nga mga police. So we recommended them to be sanctioned or dismissed for their serious infractions," Loot said.

Loot said the police force honored those who rendered service unselfishly during the summit but it is also quick to impose sanction over those that are considered "potential scalawags" in the service.

A total of 6000 police and military personnel who helped secure the summit will each receive a "Presidential Unit Citation", or a badge for a job well done that they could pin on their uniforms, said Loot.

Loot and Police Regional Office-7 director Silverio Alarcio sent-off 140 field training policemen from PRO-13 that were detailed at the CPPO headquarters during the summit.

Dinner packs were served to each of the trainees at the port area before they boarded the ship that brought them home.

Loot also treated the other 140 trainees from PRO-6 to a meal yesterday noon before their voyage home. Flor Z. Perolina/RAE-
