At least 16 families living along sidewalks in makeshift shelters availed of the Balik Probinsya Program of the city government in line with the ASEAN Summit this week.
Esabelita Ganub, chief of the anti-mendicancy program of the city social welfare division, said that yesterday these 16 families under the Balik Probinsya program were given by the city government P5,000 as transportation allowance and food assistance.
Ganub said that the recipient-families are from Samar, Leyte, Ormoc City, Dipolog City, Siquijor, Bohol and Zamboanga del Norte.
Asked as to what assurance that the families will not be coming back to Cebu anymore, Ganub said they will be sending communication to their respective Department of Social Welfare Division offices in said places to monitor the families.
"Kung mobalik gyud sila, mapugos na gyud ta og file og case against nila. Magpalimos man gud na sila diri sa atong kadalanan," Ganub said.
