Jovito Decina, 47, received an undetermined amount of cash for his honesty from the owner of the cell phone and from the manager of the restaurant where he returned the lost item.
In an interview, Decina said that before he found the cell phone, he took its owner to the Port Seafood Restaurant in Waterfront Cebu City Hotel.
"Nagkadaghan na 'ko og pasahero unya kay wala ko kabantay nga naa diay cell phone nga nahulog sa backseat maayo na lang kay nanawag ang tag iya mao to nga ako nauli dayon," Decina said.
He added that this is not the first time that he was able to find a cell phone inside his vehicle.
"Lain man gud kung mangangkon ka og butang nga dili imoha ba so maayo jud nga imo jud na iuli sa tag iya," he said.
Eduard Jayco, the owner of the restaurant, said he commended Decina because the taxi driver can serve as a good example to other taxi drivers.
"This is a good timing of the ASEAN Summit because this only shows that Cebuanos are honest people," he said. - Jasmin R. Uy
