Waterfront police station gets a facelift

-
After police personnel and the transacting public had experienced years of discomfort, the new Waterfront Police station has now taken on a new face with "corporate-style office spaces and decent detention areas."

Yesterday, Police Regional director Silverio Alarcio formally accepted the total physical renovation of the police station amounting to P2.8 million that was built with the assistance of the Gaisano Foundation, Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the city government.

CCCI past president Jose Ng said the "Adopt A Station Project" was formed through the Cebu City Tripartite Peace and Order Council. The project is also part of the continuing support of the city government and the PNP to heighten the level of police service to the people.

At least three police stations in the city have been lined up for refurbishing. These are Carbon, Fuente and San Nicolas police stations. This project is spearheaded by the Police Coordinating Advisory Council under the office of Vice Mayor Michael Rama.

Mayor Tomas Osmeña yesterday expressed his gratitude to the business community for refurbishing dilapidated police stations in the city.

Waterfront Police station commander Pedrilio Villamor, in a separate interview, said he is very happy on the improvement of their police station, but hopes that they could have at least one police vehicle for responding to alarms and in filing cases in court.

Villamor said they just borrow vehicles from the barangay especially in responding to alarms and use their personal vehicles in filing court cases.

"Tungod kay wala mi transportation, dugay gyud ang among pag-responde sa mga alarma," Villamor said, adding that he already raised the matter to the PNP headquarters and that they were promised they will be given next year. - Garry B. Lao
