Two injured in twin shooting incidents

Two persons were hurt in separate shooting incidents in the city in a span of five hours the other day.

One of the victims, a resident of Villagonzalo 2 in barangay Tejero, was identified as Redwin Tito, 22, who was reportedly shot by two unidentified masked men while he was on his way home on a motorcycle past 2: 00 a.m. yesterday.

SPO3 Alex Dacua told The Freeman that Tito was with his 13-year-old female neighbor when the assailants, armed with an undetermined caliber of firearm, appeared.

The girl told Dacua that as they stopped, the perpetrators suddenly opened fire several times, hitting Tito in the different parts of his body.

When Tito fell into the ground, the assailants hurriedly fled to the interior portion of the area and were already gone when the responding policemen arrived.

Tito was rushed to Cebu City Medical Center but was later transferred to a private hospital due to multiple gunshot wounds in his body and forearms.

Dacua said the girl happened to be with the victim after the latter saw her walking for home alone after visiting a friend along T.Villa Street. He added that the incident might have something to do with the illegal drug trade in the area.

Prior to the Tejero shooting, a 49-year-old woman was shot in close range by two unidentified men while she was walking along Saint Michael Street in barangay Banilad the other night.

Police identified the victim as Victoria Yap, a San Fernando town native who works as cook in the area.

Dacua said the assailants suddenly came out of a taxi cab and approached the victim while she was walking.

Sensing that she was in danger, the victim hurriedly turned back but was chased by one of the attackers who then shot her in close range, hitting her face.

The gunman then boarded back the taxicab and sped away while Yap was rushed to a private hospital by concerned citizens.

Dacua said the victim told him that a few days ago, she had a fight with a househelper and a security guard who have both threatened to kill her. - Edwin Ian Melecio
