Philpost stays open during summit

-
Although it has been declared as a non-working holiday in all government agencies, the Philippine Postal Corporation has announced that it will still continue with its operations even during the 12th ASEAN Summit. Philpost regional director Alfredo Estrera said that businesses will continue as usual in all post offices in Cebu during the conduct of the summit.

Although it has been declared a non-working holiday in all government agencies in Cebu, Estrera said that he has felt the necessity to answer the mailing needs of the public since it is Christmas time. "All post offices in the region to include those in cities of Cebu, Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu are open to the public from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm," Estrera said.

Earlier, Malacañang issued Proclamation No. 1032-A on November 22 amending its earlier order so that the private sector would be exempted from the no-work holiday declared in March.

Reason given for the change is that "a prolonged holiday would unduly hamper continued operations of business and the private sector." - Jasmin R. Uy/MEEV
