Vendors group denounces demolition of carenderias

Officials of Cebu City United Vendors Association yesterday denounced the demolition of ten carenderias along B. Rodriguez Street in barangay Capitol Site.

"Lisod kaayo ang ilang kahimtang and gikahadlokan namo nga basin manakod ning demolition sa ubang mga sidewalk vendors," according to a CCUVA official who requested anonymity.

CCUVA officials are set to meet with Mayor Tomas Osmeña within the week to enter into a compromise with the city government as the Squatter Prevention and Encroachment Elimination Division is implementing the clearing of sidewalks.

"Ila nang katungod kun mokiha sila namo," SPEED chief Vicente Mercado said.

Mercado told CCUVA officers present during the demolition that the demolition order was signed by Osmeña last November 14 and was also supported by a city council resolution for the clearing of all illegal structures along B. Rodriquez.

"Dili man mi mahadlok in the first place trabaho ra gyud ni amoa ug ang objective niini mao ra gyud ang pag-clear sa atong sidewalk," said Capitol site barangay captain Manuel Guanzon who was among those who implemented the demolition.

The provincial capitol also lent their dump truck to help haul away destroyed structures.

Earlier Carolina Mangubat, one of the vendors along B. Rodriguez, threatened to file charges against the men behind the demolition saying there is a pending case before Regional Trial Court judge Sylvia Paderanga against the provincial government. - Ramil V. Ayuman
