By roadside outside construction sites: Parking ban on cars, trucks, heavy equipment proposed

Cars, trucks and heavy equipment used for construction of buildings should be banned from parking by the roadside outside the construction site during daytime.

This was councilor Raul Alcoseba's proposed resolution to regulate vehicle parking on streets and other public places along construction sites, which were found to have caused traffic problems in these areas.

Alcoseba, as traffic management committee chairman, said that motor vehicles, trucks, and heavy equipment parked on the roadsides in an area where there is construction have caused inconvenience and hazard to pedestrians and other motorists.

He then proposed that these vehicles and equipment "utilized in the construction of buildings and other commercial structures" should be prohibited from parking except from 11 p.m. until 4 a.m. the next day.

Another exemption is that the affected road or street should still be passable to vehicular traffic with certain conditions and compliance of necessary requisites from the Office of the Building Officials and the City Traffic Operations and Management.

The Citom, through its Traffic Violation Bureau, would be authorized to collect the P200 permit fee from an applicant wanting to be allowed to park outside the construction site.

Before this permit is issued however, the city should conduct an inspection of the place first along with the recommendations from the traffic authorities. - Garry B. Lao/RAE
