Storeowner stabs 'frustrated singer'

A 29-year-old man landed in the hospital after he was stabbed by the owner of the microphone he allegedly smashed into the ground during a heated argument in barangay Looc, Danao City, last Friday afternoon.

Police identified the victim as Filemon Parot, a resident of the place, who sustained a stab wound in his chest and was rushed to the Danao City District Hospital. He, however, was later transferred to a hospital in Cebu City and is now in safe condition.

The suspect was identified as 35-year-old Arnel Alarin, a businessman who is also a resident of the area. He surrendered to PO2 Francis Villamor of the Danao City Police Station after the incident.

According to SPO3 Edgar Gomez, desk officer of Danao City Police Station, the victim was already drunk when he went to the store owned by the suspect and put a P5 coin into a karaoke machine to sing.

But when the machine failed to display his selected song, the victim asked the suspect for a refund but when the latter refused, a heated argument between the two ensued.

Gomez said Parot then slammed the microphone into the ground, adding that "gidapog pa gyud niya si Alarin." The suspect retaliated by stabbing Parot in the chest with knife.

Police, however, said the suspect was released from jail yesterday after the mothers of the two went to their station for an amicable settlement, with the suspect shouldering all the hospital expenses of the victim. - Norvie S. Misa
