2 persons wounded in separate shootings

Two persons were wounded in two separate shooting incidents last Sunday in the towns of Barili and San Fernando.

The first incident happened Sunday midnight in sitio Cantavo, barangay Gunting, Barili when 56-year-old farmer Jose Sabanal Jr. was reportedly shot by barangay tanod George Guzman.

The victim sustained a gunshot wound in his left arm and was rushed to Barili District Hospital but was later transferred to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center.

Guzman, who fled right after the incident, was arrested during a manhunt operation conducted by policemen led by P/Insp. Ricardo Nayne who recovered from the suspect's possession the .38 caliber revolver he reportedly used in the shooting.

Initial police investigation revealed that the suspect lost his temper after the victim allegedly did not take his advice not to make trouble during a benefit dance in the area.

The investigation added, however, that Sabanal's wife Semporia claimed that her husband was only attending the benefit dance and was shot by the suspect when he went outside of the dance arena.

PO2 Estillore Cañete told The Freeman that criminal complaint was filed yesterday against the suspect.

In San Fernando, a 20-year-old man was also shot while walking with his friends in sitio Magtalisay, barangay Balud Sunday night.

Rolando Plarisan, a resident of sitio Crossing, was allegedly shot by a certain Junery Enad, a resident of barangay Angat. Plarisan, who was hit in the back and right shoulder, was immediately rushed to the Don Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center while the suspect fled right after the incident.

Initial police investigation said the victim and his five companions were walking along the national highway in sitio Magtalisay when the suspect suddenly appeared and shot the victim.

SPO3 Raffy Satera, a duty officer of San Fernando police, said they have been conducting a follow-up operation against the suspect since the other day. - Norvie S. Misa/LPM
