Cops arrest taxi driver for mauling daughter

A taxi driver, allegedly high on drugs, was arrested for beating up and slamming on the floor his 10-year-old daughter when he arrived at their house in sitio Tabay Lawom, barangay Tisa Tuesday evening.

Policemen of the Mobile Patrol Group, responding to neighbors' call for help, arrived at the scene and arrested the still unruly Margarito Rodriguez while the neighbors took the victim to the Cebu City Medical Center.

At the hospital, Rodriguez's wife arrived and told police she left her husband because has been using illegal drugs. She said she brought with her their four children, but left behind two other children to him and his mother.

A child abuse case is now being prepared against Rodriguez who has been detained at the MPG detention cell.

Police reports stated that Rodriguez arrived at their house, allegedly in a drunken stupor from illegal drugs, and went into a wild fit upon seeing his daughter still awake while rebutting his inquiries with allegedly insulting replies.

Rodriguez claimed he did not know what he did to his daughter, who witnesses said he beat up and kicked furiously until she lost consciousness. - Flor Z. Perolina
