Robber shoots woman in heist
September 6, 2006 | 12:00am
A woman who refused to give up her cell phone to a robber inside a public utility jeepney landed in a hospital after he shot her both legs during a brief scuffle.
Carbon police identified the victim as Pinky Libres, 20, a resident of Gorordo Avenue in barangay Camputhaw. The robber, however, remains unidentified.
Police investigators said both the victim and the robber were on board a PUJ traveling through Carbon area around 3:00 p.m. Monday when, upon reaching Lincoln Street in barangay Ermita, the suspect poked a gun at her and asked for her cell phone she was holding at that time.
When the victim refused to hand over her cell phone, the robber tried to grab it but the victim fought back, resulting to a scuffle inside the PUJ.
The robber then opened fire, hitting the victim in both legs, but the victim did not let go of the suspect until they both fell off the PUJ.
Then the robber, this time, succesfully grabbed the cell phone of the victim and hurriedly fled, leaving the wounded Libres on the road. A certain Rudy Lintag, who saw the victim limping, brought her to Chong Hua Hospital.
Police, however, failed to arrest the suspect during a follow-up operation. - Edwin Ian Melecio
