Police uprooted on Friday more than 1,000 stalks of marijuana in sitio Manigay in Candison, a mountain barangay in the southern town of Boljoon.
The marijuana plantation was discovered at the farm cultivated by a certain Antonio Silvano, who was supposed to be invited for police questioning but was not around when the lawmen went to his house.
Police Inspector Rodrigo Ordigoso, chief of Boljoon Police Station, said they received information that Silvano was cultivating a marijuana plantation.
A surveillance operation conducted by police and the Barangay Intelligence Network volunteers led to the discovery of the plantation.
"Gisagol ra pagtanom ang marijuana sa mais nga tanom mao nga dili dayon mahibaw-an," Ordigoso said.
Ordigoso said they are still conducting further investigation to identify the real owner of the plantation. - Jose P.Sollano/LPM
