What was meant to be a routine inspection by the Commission on Audit of the Tejero barangay hall yesterday morning turned out to be more than the usual routine with the discovery of a World War II vintage bomb that has been inside the barangay hall stockroom for nine months now.
Tejero barangay councilor Merlyn Servilla, who asked the COA to inspect the barangay properties, told TV patrol Cebu they thought the vintage bomb was part of the scrap iron owned by the barangay.
The vintage bomb was confiscated by barangay tanods of Tejero sometime last November from a group of garbage collectors and placed in the stock room at the ground floor of the three-story barangay hall of Tejero.
"Wa gyud mi masayod nga dugay na diay ni diri ang vintage bomb kun wa mag inspection ang COA dili gyud to nahibaw-an," Servilla said, "sus pwerting kuyawa namo kay nagtuo nga puthaw ra pero bomba na man diay."
Barangay officials of Tejero yesterday called the SWAT Bomb Disposal Unit and turned the explosive over to them.
PO3 Danilo Rosales of SWAT said the vintage bomb appeared to be active still.
"Bisan pa madugay to didto sa stockroom dili gyud mobuto pero ang kuwang lang ato kun ibunal to kuyaw na kaayo. Ang maayo unta ila tong i-turn over dayon namo dili ibutang sa stock room sa ilang barangay," Rosales added. - Ramil V. Ayuman/BRP
