Brownouts to hit parts of Cebu, Mandaue this weekend

-
Portions of Mandaue and Cebu cities will experience power outages during the weekend due to scheduled maintenance and upgrading activities of the Visayan Electric Company.

On Friday, from 4 a.m. to 7 p.m., VECO will conduct pole and line relocation in barangay Tipolo, Mandaue City that will affect some parts of the area specifically Mantaring Building, D&C Building (in front of San Miguel Corp.), IBM Visayas regional office, SMC Credit Union and Caltex Phils. Inc.

On Saturday, portions of barangays Labogon, Tabok, Estancia and Sudlon, also in Mandaue, will experience power interruption from 2 a.m. to 4 a.m. to enable the power firm's crew to install new concrete poles and standard construction.

On the same day, parts of J.P. Rizal St. in barangay Basak, Mandaue City will experience two 15-minute power switching at 2 a.m. to 2:15 a.m. and 3:45 a.m. to 4 a.m. Areas that will be affected include Palm Hills Subdivision, J.B. Alinsug Street, Rajah Town Homes, Our Lady of Fatima Parish Church, and sitio Tundan. Parts of Jagobiao and Poblacion, Consolacion are also included specifically Energizer Phils., Inc. and Eversely Child Sanitarium compound. The switching will facilitate the load transfer from Paknaan Feeder to Consolacion feeder in order to isolate remaining areas from the maintenance schedule in Mandaue.

Meanwhile, in Cebu City, Don Jose Village in barangay Guadalupe will be affected by power interruptions from 8 a.m. to 12 noon to facilitate the replacement of the rotten pole in the area.

In barangay San Nicholas proper, stringing of an additional primary line is scheduled at 5 a.m. until 10 a.m. to allow VECO's crew to install new poles, standard construction and transfer all attachments. - Wenna A. Berondo/QSB
