Tejero hits Carreta over boundary row

The boundary conflict between barangays Carreta and Tejero once again reared its ugly head when the Tejero barangay council got irked on Carreta's continued claim that its boundary is up to Sampaguita Road, which is also being claimed by Tejero.

The Tejero barangay council passed a resolution asking the City Council to settle the conflict, which remained unsolved since it was referred to the council committee on urban planning in November 2003.

Following the approval of a barangay resolution, Tejero barangay captain Lito Fajardo said the Carreta barangay council "misleads our constituents in the disputed area in which our barangay has been extending its basic services."

"The barangay council has already sent them (Carreta council) a letter asking them to stop their misleading tactics that they have continued until now," Fajardo said, adding that they have documents that would prove that the boundary claimed by Carrreta belongs to Tejero.

"We strongly lodge our opposition and objection to the claims of barangay Carreta that the Sampaguita Road is their boundary between barangay Tejero without any legal basis and approval from the Cebu City Council," the Tejero barangay resolution read.

Carreta's claims were based on the Cebu City Zoning Board Resolution No. 049 dated March 11, 1999, stating that Sampaguita Road will be the boundary between the two barangays.

But Fajardo said the basis of identifying barangay boundary should be in accordance with the law.

The City Council has jurisdiction over the boundary dispute as mandated by the Implementing Rules and Regulations of the Local Government Code. - Garry B. Lao/LPM
