Two Cebuanos are reportedly among eight Filipinos, who have been jailed in Dubai for allegedly holding fake passports.
Relatives of the two Cebuanos are now seeking the help of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).
A report over TV Patrol Central Visayas identified the two Cebuanos as Aldwin Pardillo, 34, and Ian David Ang, 26, both of of Ward 4 Minglanilla, Cebu.
The two are reportedly detained at the Dubai Central Jail according to reports received by their relatives from Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in the United Arab Emirates.
Pardillo left for Dubai last July 14 while Ang left last July 19. They both used tourist visas for the trip, but have been promised work as soon as they arrive in Dubai.
Relatives of the two Cebuanos alleged that a certain Ruby Gengson of the Chime agency recruited the two to work in the oil-rich state in the Pesian Gulf.
Monalisa Pardillo, wife of Aldwin, said they received information from fellow cebuanos working in Dubai that her husband has been detained for possessing a fake passport.
This is also the same accusation against Ang.
"Di lalim ron ang among kabalaka gibati kun naunsa na ron sila didto," Luzviminda Rebojo, aunt of Ang, said over TV Patrol Cebu.
The DFA in Central Visayas, however, has not received any information about the Cebuanos and six other Filipinos being jailed in UAE.
"So far wala pa tayong natanggap na report na ganyan. We have an embassy in Dubai so far wala talaga," DFA 7 director Angel Espiritu said.
Espiritu urged the relatives to visit his office so that they can document their complaint and inform their Manila office about the reported imprisonment of eight Filipinos.
Espiritu suspects that these Filipinos are undocumented individuals going to Dubai.
But nevertheless, Espiritu said, they are willing to assist the relatives for the immediate repatriation of their kin.
"I dont think it was fake passport. Kasi pag na issue namin, hindi na pwede ma-tamper yon o mapapalitan yung picture kasi masira pa yung picture pag palitan yun."
