PRO-7 gets cars for ASEAN Summit

The 19 patrol cars to be used for the ASEAN Summit in December arrived here last night.
The vehicles are part of the P1 billion budget that President Arroyo gave to the PNP to make its work in maintaining peace and security more efficient.
Aside from Region 7, other regions also received the new police patrol cars.
PNP chief, Director General Oscar Calderon, will formally announce the recipient of the vehicles this coming Saturday during the PNP Recognition Day.
Police Community Relations Office-7 chief, Supt. Alexander Abadinas, said that an additional patrol car is scheduled to arrive tomorrow.
PRO-7 director, Chief Superintendent Silverio Alarcio, said they need vehicles and other equipment in maintaining peace and order in Central Visayas especially with the coming ASEAN Summit.
Alarcio also said that more policemen will undergo training in preparation for the summit.
They also expect augmentation forces from neighboring regions to arrive next month.
In a meeting called by National Organizing Committee chairman, Ambassador Marciano Paynor, it was announced that the PNP will be given all their needs to ensure the success of the summit.
