Woman visiting inmate jailed for having drugs

A woman who went to visit an inmate at the Cebu City Police Office stockade became an inmate herself after the jailers allegedly caught her trying to smuggle in two packs of suspected shabu last Monday night.

PO2 Joel Manalili of the Service Security Group who was the jailer last Monday night at the police stockade discovered the said drugs from Fe Sanchez, of sitio Villagonzalo II, barangay Tejero this city.

Sanchez allegedly came to the stockade purportedly to visit Leah Montebon, who was arrested Sunday in the evening together with PO1 Richard Rosacena for a drug-related case.

After searching the items brought by Sanchez, Manalili noticed a piece of tissue paper in the hand of the suspect and asked about it, but the latter allegedly refused to show it at first.

Manalili eventually persuaded her to do so and discovered the two plastic packs with suspected shabu and two aluminum foils from the said tissue paper. For this Sanchez ended up joining Montebon in the stockade.

Police believe the shabu was for someone inside the stockade but do not know exactly who.

Montebon was arrested by Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Branch last Sunday evening after a police informer saw an armed man entering Montebon's house.

The CIIB said they received information that the house is a drug den. The said armed person, Rosacena, was caught holding shabu paraphernalia and an unlicensed .45 cal. pistol with five live bullets. - Edwin Ian Melecio
