Because of the impact, Nasario Sinamban, a resident of P. Del Rosario Extension, hit his head on the pavement and was immediately taken to the Cebu City Medical Center. But the attending physician declared him dead on arrival saying the head injury was fatal.
Traffic policeman PO1 Edgardo Becoy, said the motorcycle driver Pedro Artajo Romero, 19, of De la Concepcion Street in barangay Pasil, Cebu City, was on his way to deliver meat to the market.
Romero failed to see Sinamban crossing the street and it was already too late for Romero to stop the moment he realized the octogenarian was right in his path.
Romero, who was accompanied by his mother Julieta, later surrendered to the police. Charges of reckless imprudence resulting to homicide are now being readied against him.
Meanwhile a guard fell to his death underneath a bridge after losing control of his motorcycle while heading to his wife's house last Saturday night at Medellin town.
Jun Bolgado was declared dead by doctors of Severo Verallo District Hospital at Bogo town due to severe head and body injuries after falling from a height reckoned at 15 feet.
SPO2 Alfredo Limalima of Medellen police told that Bolgado was from sitio Mustang, barangay Pusok, Lapu-Lapu City, who married a woman from sitio Landing, barangay Daanglungsod, Medellin town two years ago.
He made it a habit to come to her house after working in Lapu-Lapu City.
Limalima believed that the victim might have run over a rock and lost control of his motorcycle before falling off the bridge and down a creek where some concrete posts of an older bridge still stand.
He was rushed by residents to the Bogo District Hospital where he declared dead on arrival.
The approaching to the bridge from the south is difficult for motorists as they have to negotiate a blind curve first.
"Daghan na kaayo ang nadisgrasya diha kay lisod makita ang taytayan tungod sa blind curve ilabi na kun padulong ka sa norte nga bahin," Limalima explained. - Edwin Ian Melecio
