The police are now pursuing several angles behind Saturday's killing of Ananias Dy, the star witness of Rep. Antonio Cuenco during the October 2001 congressional inquiry on drugs.
Dy, 50 years old, was shot dead while on his way home after visiting his mother at Esperanza Village, barangay Tisa, this city last Saturday night.
Regional Investigation and Intelligence Division chief, Sr. Supt. Augusto Marquez, Jr., in a telephone interview with The Freeman, said that all angles are worth digging.
Marquez said that it would include the possible involvement of businessmen Peter and Wellington Lim and other possible angles like debt, personal grudges, and even marital problems.
The businessmen were among the subjects of the congressional inquiry in 2001 where Dy, who used to work for them, accused the brothers of being involved in illegal drugs.
The Lim brothers, who denied the allegations, said that Dy was just a disgruntled employee, who was seeking to get even and there were no charges filed against them after that investigation.
"Of course dunay mga hungihong, kinsa may maka-motivate sa pagpatay kundili kadto ra gyung dunay kasuko niya," Marquez revealed.
"Daghan man ug anggulo," he added.
Not one police official from Cebu City Police Office answered The Freeman's telephone calls last night to inquire about the update of their investigation.
Even the Homicide Section office was closed past 2 in the afternoon yesterday when The Freeman visited. It was learned that the duty investigators were out to respond to a stabbing alarm, which is the reason why their office was padlocked.
Marquez also said that today, a case conference on the Dy killing to be presided by PRO-7 director Chief Supt. Silverio Alarcio will be held early this morning. Expected to attend are operations chief Sr. Supt. Lani-O Nerez, CCPO acting director Supt. Melvin Gayotin, Supt. Pablo Labra of the CIIB, and Marquez.
Marquez also assured the public that the police will do their best regardless of the standing of the people involved and will not stop their investigation until the culprits are charged in court.
