The Police Regional Office-7 has recently ordered the creation of the Special Operations Team to provide additional security force for the ASEAN Summit this December.
The team will be composed of selected policemen from the Cebu Provincial Police Office, the Cebu City Police Office and the Regional Mobile Group.
These selected policemen would be chosen for their skill and capabilities in internal security operations, police-community relations and intelligence work.
In a memorandum sent to these three police groups, PRO-7 operations and plans division said the selected men would undergo specialized training at the Central Command this month.
The 4-month long training would be in two phases: classroom instructions and field exercises or actual application, both of which are aimed at enhancing the security effectiveness of the team during the Asean event.
A few days ago, 70 members of the Barangay Intelligence Network also finished a three-day training in bomb detection, special laws, basic investigations and other police work, which was conducted by the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Branch and the Special Weapons and Tactics.
Supt. Pablo Labra III said these men will boost the security manpower for the Asean Summit where authorities have also planned to put at least 5,000 security men from various regions in the country. - Edwin Ian Melecio
