BBRC inmates get organ from IPI

-
Inmates at the Bagong Buhay Rehabilitation Center will now have something to make their spare time more enjoyable.

The International Pharmaceuticals Incorporated has donated a Yamaha organ to the city jail and Vice Mayor Michael Rama said the equipment is specifically for the use of the inmates.

Rama added the inmates can utilize the musical equipment in their religious services and programs inside the facility and for those who are musically inclined, might be able to use it during their free time.

Meanwhile, councilor Procopio Fernandez, member of the Police Coordination and Advisory Council said they will ask the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology if they would allow certain books to be placed inside the jail.

Fernandez said books that promote values formation would be good materials for the inmates to spend their time with, especially if the books would be donated.

But Fernandez is cautious that the entry of the books will have to be strictly monitored to avoid possible slippage of certain prohibited objects to the prisoners. These include prohibited drugs and other sharp objects that may be used for escape.

BBRC has been in hot waters for several incidents of escape and presence of prohibited drugs inside the facility.

Even Mayor Tomas Osmeña does not want the inmates to be transferred to the new facility in barangay Kalunasan, saying the same would be dangerous to the residents in the area especially in incidents of jailbreaks. - Joeberth M. Ocao
