Cops nab suspect in attempted rape after victim sees him in the hospital

Here is a case, which proves it pays to report crime immediately to the police.

The victim of attempted rape in barangay Looc, Mandaue City, who fought and stabbed her assailant met the man once again while they were both at the emergency room of the Mandaue District Hospital.

The victim was brought by the police to get a medical certificate for the bruises and contusions that she got while the alleged assailant was there to have the cuts he sustained from the stabbing attended to by doctors.

The petite woman, a 25-year-old nursing student, was on her way home Wednesday night when she was attacked on a dimly lit portion of sitio Pokang, barangay Looc.

According to PO2 Vicente Gila, in a telephone interview with The Freeman, the would be victim was suddenly hugged and pushed to the ground by the suspect, Nestor Lacao of sitio Pulang Bukid, barangay Alang-alang, Mandaue City.

The suspect, who was already on top of the victim on the muddy road, allegedly poked a kitchen knife at her and started to fondle her. The woman, who was not intimidated by the size of the alleged attacker fought back and managed to pry the knife from Lacao and started to stab him on the face, said Gila.

"Nailog man sa biktima ang kutsilyo, dayon kay desperate man siya basta nalang siya niwara-wara sa kutsilyo kay nagtuo man siya nga malugos gyud siya," the police investigator said.

The wounded suspect punched the victim on the stomach and tried to choke her, but lost his grip due to the injuries her sustained and the woman was able to run away.

The victim immediately reported the incident to Opao police station and was brought by policemen to the hospital for a medical examination.

To her surprise, she saw Lacao, who was being attended to by doctors there. Doctors were suturing his left ear and another wound on the left cheekbone. After the woman positively identified Lacao, the police placed him under arrest.

According to Gila, the physician told them that Lacao claimed to have been drunk and that he was attacked the suspect alleged that he is drunk and suddenly attacked by somebody with a broken bottle causing his injuries. - Edwin Ian Melecio of Banat News
