Veco: Brownouts to hit parts of Metro Cebu this weekend

Power outages will hit several portions of Metro Cebu such as in Cebu City, Mandaue City, and Consolacion and Liloan towns this weekend when the Visayan Electric Company conducts maintenance works on these areas.

Starting at 7 a.m. today, Veco will replace rotten poles with concrete poles in some parts of Cebu City to cause a five-hour brownout at Don Gil Garcia Street in barangay Capitol Site, and in Joaquino Street in barangay Mabolo.

Similar works would be done along East Capitol and part of N. Escario Street resulting in brownouts in these areas from 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

On Sunday, from 5 a.m. to 6 a.m. then from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., some barangays in Mandaue City and Consolacion town as Veco installs a disconnected switch at its feeders in Paknaan while temporarily transferring load from there to Mandaue sub-station.

In effect, brownouts will hit Mandaue's barangays Paknaan, Umapad, Opao, Alang-Alang, Ibabao, Labogon, Tungasan, Basak, Maguikay and Estancia. To be affected also will be barangays Poblacion and Tugbungan in Consolacion town.

On the same day, from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., Veco will move its lines in Consolacion while replacing a rotten pole that was hit by a crane there last June 18.

Affected areas will be parts of barangays Jagobiao and Tugbungan in Mandaue City, parts of barangay Nangka and the entire barangay Tayud in Consolacion town, and parts of barangays Calero and Tayud in Liloan town.

From 6 a.m. to 7 a.m., other barangays in Liloan and Consolacion will also experience power interruption although it would not be due to the pole replacement. Veco would isolate these areas to remove a line connector then put it back to normal situation by 1 p.m. and 2 p.m.

In Liloan starting at 9 a.m., a six-hour brownout will hit purok Molave of sitio Bokante and Germelina Street in barangay Tayud, and sitio Dapdap in barangay Catarman. Veco will relocate a pole from a private property and transfer its attachments to another area.

Veco said these interruptions are part of the firm's major improvement projects to lessen the duration of power outages, and ensure the public a reliable, safe and stable power supply. - Jasmin R. Uy
