Gomer Tabañag turned over also to Sr/Insp. Ranulfo Lastimoso the .357 caliber revolver that was allegedly used by his victim, 39-year-old councilman Carmelo Orbita, who he said killed his 34-year-old brother Roel, earlier that day.
Gomer allegedly killed Orbita in retaliation for killing Roel.
Police reports said that the night before the incident, Orbita and Gomer got into a heated altercation while they were having a few drinks.
The following morning, Orbita looked for Gomer but instead met Roel, who bid to settle the matter in behalf of his brother.
But Orbita, without saying a word, drew a gun and fired twice at Roel who was hit only once in the stomach but died on the spot.
Upon learning that his brother was killed, Gomer went to the scene and chased Orbita. Gomer shot Orbita but failed because the gun misfired.
As the chase reached about 200 meters away from the spot where Roel was slain, Gomer got hold of a stone and bludgeoned Orbita to death.
Shortly after, Gomer then went into hiding but the next day he went to the police station to surrender. -Gregg M. Rubio
