Carbon vendors form task force vs. crime
June 4, 2006 | 12:00am
Traders and vendors at Carbon market have banded together to help the police in the fight against crime in the area.
Erwin Gok-ong, chairman of the Cebu Market Cooperative said the move is in response to the challenge of the city government officials.
Gok-ong said it was city administrator Francisco Fernandez who brought to them the idea of creating a task force for this purpose last month as snatching, robbery, swindling and other crimes continue in the area.
"Nakita nato nga kinahanglan gayud hatagan sa igong pagtagad kining maong problema sa Carbon mao nga nagkahiusa kami pagtubag niining maong problema", Gok-ong said.
He added that the move is also to promote Carbon Market and encourage the public to visit the place and buy the products coming from different municipalities.
Carbon is known as a center for vegetable and agricultural products from different municipalities of Cebu and neighboring provinces in the Visayas and Mindanao.
Aside from the problems of peace and order, Gok-ong said problems regarding drainage and traffic congestion in the area also need to be addressed.
