'Tabo sa DA' starts Monday

Cebuano farmers and fishermen will bring the best of their produce and catch for display during the holding of the three-day "Tabo sa DA" (Department of Agriculture), which starts on Monday.

Geraldine Franza, DA's regional agricultural marketing and agribusiness division chief, said the activity highlights the celebration of the "Farmer's and Fisherfolk's Month" in May

Franza said that fresh vegetables, eggs and meat products would be on display at affordable prices during the activity. The popular Virgin Coconut Oil and other coco products such as coir and fiber will also be presented.

Also on display during the trade fair, which will be held at the DA Multipurpose Hall along M. Velez Street, are fresh fish and preserved and processed marine products such as "buwad", "bagoong" and 'ginamos."

The National Statistics Office said that with almost 160 farms covering 146 hectares, Cebu has the highest number of farms in Central Visayas, which has more than 430 farms covering 522 hectares.

Corn is still the major temporary crop while coconut remains the permanent temporary crop in the region. - Ferliza C. Contratista
